Air Peace Expands Fleet, Launches Historic Direct Barbados Service

Nigeria’s leading airline, Air Peace, has achieved two major milestones in its ongoing expansion strategy with the acquisition of an additional Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft, which arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Sunday, May 24, 2026, and the successful launch of its inaugural direct commercial flight between Lagos and Barbados.

The developments, according to the airline, reflect its commitment to strengthening operational capacity, expanding international connectivity, and positioning Nigeria as a leading aviation hub in Africa.

The aircraft, configured with 189 Economy Class seats, is expected to enhance passenger comfort, improve operational efficiency, and provide greater scheduling flexibility across the airline’s domestic and regional network.
The carrier stated that the Boeing 737-800 NG is equipped with advanced avionics, modern safety technology, spacious cabin interiors, expanded overhead storage, and fuel-efficient engines, making it one of the most reliable narrow-body aircraft in global aviation. The aircraft’s fuel efficiency would contribute to lower operating costs and reduced carbon emissions, supporting the airline’s sustainability goals and long-term operational strategy.

According to the airline, the addition of the aircraft will increase seat capacity, strengthen route connectivity, and provide passengers with more travel options across its growing network.

In another landmark achievement, the airline successfully operated its first scheduled direct commercial flight between Lagos and Barbados, creating a new air connection between Africa and the Caribbean.

The inaugural flight, operated with a Boeing 777 aircraft on May 24, departed Lagos with over 284 passengers onboard, reflecting growing demand for seamless travel between West Africa and the Caribbean.

Air Peace explained that the new route is designed to eliminate many of the challenges previously faced by travellers commuting between both regions, including multiple stopovers, extended transit times, and complex visa requirements associated with connecting flights through foreign countries.

The airline added that the Lagos–Barbados route is expected to improve accessibility for tourists, business travellers, diaspora communities, and participants in cultural and educational exchange programmes.

Industry stakeholders view the development as another significant milestone in Air Peace’s international expansion and a strategic move to strengthen Nigeria’s role as a major aviation gateway in Africa.

Following the successful inaugural operation, Air Peace announced that subsequent flights are expected to operate twice monthly as the airline continues to strengthen air connectivity between Africa and the Caribbean.
