Wakanow Becomes Africa’s First Travel Company to Offer Lufthansa NDC Content via Direct API

Africa’s top travel technology company, Wakanow, has become the first travel company in Africa to offer Lufthansa Group’s New Distribution Capability (NDC) content through a direct API integration, marking a significant milestone in reshaping how African travellers access airline products.

The integration gives Wakanow customers direct access to richer airline content, real-time fares and availability, enhanced fare options and ancillary products, while positioning the company to deliver a more comprehensive digital booking experience.

The development comes as airlines and travel sellers increasingly move away from traditional distribution models towards modern, technology-driven retailing. NDC enables airlines to distribute richer and more differentiated products through modern digital channels, reducing some of the limitations associated with legacy distribution systems.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) describes NDC as an industry-supported data exchange standard designed to improve communication between airlines and travel sellers while enabling customers to access richer and more transparent shopping experiences.

For Wakanow, the development represents more than the addition of Lufthansa Group content to its booking platform. The direct API connection provides the company with a stronger technological foundation for accessing and displaying airline offers dynamically as Lufthansa Group continues to advance its retailing strategy. This integration forms part of Wakanow’s broader strategy to expand its direct airline connectivity.

Through the direct API connection, Wakanow customers can access more detailed fare and product information when searching and booking flights. The integration is also expected to enhance booking accuracy while providing greater access to ancillary products and future airline retailing innovations.

Wakanow’s direct integration with Lufthansa Group therefore represents a notable step in the digitalisation of airline distribution in Africa, while highlighting the growing role of African travel technology companies in connecting global airline products with customers across the region.
