NBCC News October 1, 2025

On Thursday, September 18, 2025, the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) hosted another impactful edition of the Meet the Governor Series at the Chamber. The Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, honoured the gathering with his presence.

The event drew an audience of business leaders, MDs, CEOs, and high-profile stakeholders, creating a room filled with influence and ambition. More than an inspiring dialogue, it delivered practical insights and actionable strategies. From digital governance to the launch of Enugu Air, the Governor made one thing clear: Enugu is a state on the move.

Mr. Tajudeen Ahmed FCA, ACIB, HCIB, M.CIoD, Vice President & Chairman of the Programmes Committee at NBCC, set the stage with a warm welcome, reiterating the vision of the Meet the Governor Series.

Prince Abimbola Olashore, President and Chairman of Council of the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC), further underscored the Chamber’s vision for this platform: to serve as a bridge between public leadership and the private sector, fostering dialogue that leads to real investments, enduring partnerships, and market growth.

He underscored the remarkable transformation of Enugu State under Governor Peter Mbah’s leadership, with reforms spanning governance, infrastructure, agriculture, services, technology, and innovation, positioning the state as a vibrant, investment-ready destination.

Mr. Jonny Baxter, British Deputy High Commissioner, reaffirmed the importance of Nigeria–UK relations, noting that the Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership (ETIP) defines the priorities for future dialogue and collaboration. He emphasized that the agreement aims to deepen bilateral trade and investment ties by driving job creation, economic growth, and reforms to improve the business environment.

In his presentation, Dr. Peter Mbah, Executive Governor of Enugu State, outlined a bold multi-sector strategy covering trade, agriculture, tourism, infrastructure, and technology—while calling for stronger private sector collaboration.

He recalled: “During our campaign for office, we set out a blueprint for Enugu built on three pillars. The first is to grow the economy exponentially—from $4.4 billion to $30 billion within eight years.”

He further unveiled significant investments in Smart Green Schools, digital learning devices, feeding programs, new TVET and senior schools, as well as reforms in tertiary education.

Additionally, Dr. Mbah emphasized that transforming urban mobility and positioning Enugu as a regional transit hub remain central to his administration’s development agenda.
Mbah emphasised that government alone cannot drive this growth, highlighting the need for private-sector engagement. He also highlighted proactive measures to tackle security, a longstanding investor concern, and outlined Enugu’s expanding infrastructure footprint, now covering 70% of city roads.
On tourism, the governor signaled a push for mass tourism, citing natural sites and the state’s highest point at 585 meters as untapped attractions. Agriculture and value chains were highlighted as critical areas for both domestic growth and export potential.

The event was expertly moderated by Prof. Franklin Nnaemeka Ngwu (PhD), Director of the LBS Public Sector Initiative, who steered an engaging and thought-provoking question-and-answer session.
