The UK public finances have come in better than expected in July, the government has announced. The b last month came in at £2bn, the best July figure since 2000 and nearly double the £1.1bn figure expected by economists. The improvement was driven by large tax receipts and takes the deficit for the first four months of the financial year to, down 40% on the same time last year.
