The Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) is set to host a landmark event on May 15, 2025, marking the graduation of the second cohort of its Women and Youth Entrepreneurship Development Initiative (WYEDC) and the official launch of the third cohort. The event, to be held in Lagos, will also feature a highly anticipated business pitch competition and the unveiling of the NBCC WYEDC Tech Skills Development Program.

The WYEDC initiative is one of NBCC’s flagship programmes focused on empowering women and youth with entrepreneurial skills, business knowledge, and mentorship opportunities. Since its inception, it has recorded significant success, with the second cohort comprising a dynamic group of emerging entrepreneurs who have undergone months of rigorous business training and mentorship.

In a move to further broaden the impact of the initiative, the third cohort will commence immediately after the graduation ceremony. This seamless transition highlights NBCC’s commitment to sustained empowerment and economic inclusion.

Adding to the excitement of the day will be the business pitch competition, where select participants from the graduating cohort will showcase innovative business ideas before a panel of investors and industry experts. Winners stand a chance to receive seed funding and business support to scale their ventures.

A major highlight of the event will be the official launch of the NBCC WYEDC Tech Skills Development Program, aimed at equipping women and youth with cutting-edge digital skills to compete effectively in today’s tech-driven global economy.
With a clear focus on upskilling to meet market demands, the new tech programme offers hands-on training in high-demand areas, including:

-  Web Design & Development
-  Digital Marketing
-  Data Analytics
-  Graphic Design
-  Coding and Software Development

“This initiative is designed not just to empower, but to transform the economic future of our youth and women. Digital skills are no longer optional—they are essential,” said NBCC President, Ray Atelly. “The WYEDC Tech Program reflects our forward-thinking approach to inclusive growth and job creation.”

Participants will be trained by top professionals in the tech industry, and will also benefit from career mentorship, project-based learning, and opportunities to connect with employers and startup ecosystems.

The May 15 event is expected to draw notable figures from government, business, and development sectors, alongside alumni of the programme and aspiring entrepreneurs. It is a celebration of achievement, innovation, and the NBCC’s ongoing role in shaping a resilient, entrepreneurial, and tech-savvy generation.
